Weekly Editorial: Is it just gun violence or does America have a violence problem?

The question is does America have a gun violence problem or a violence problem period.

There is a reason I am asking this. As it will become clear. Please excuse my grammar.

I want to start with a few stories over the last few days. Some  were by guns others were by cars or other means. So lets start with this one.

Mom confessed to killing three kids under the age of 4, police say  They have not determined how the kids were killed. This kind of tragedy happens all to often in America and other countries.

Then there is this story. California man intentionally rammed vehicle with 6 teens inside, killing 3, officers allege

Both stories very violent people bent on killing. Now not to be outdone we have these to stories.

Utah police ID 4 family members killed in shooting, say boy suspect not cooperating Again family violence.

Texas man arrested in deadly San Antonio bar shooting, police say Some idiot who was hell bent on killing no matter what.

So I did some digging on what people use to kill. The results will shock some others will just shrug them off.

If you look at the FBI stats I am about to post handguns are the number 1 murder weapon by choice. Total firearm murder in 2018 that is the newest I could find.

So Total firearms used in murder in 2018 was  of that number 10,260. Of that number  6,603 were handguns. Which by far was used the most.

But lets take a look at non gun murders. This number will shock some some again will just shrug it off. 3,858.

But that still does not tell the whole story. Lets take London you say that is not America but it is important. London has some of the most strict if not the most in the world on guns. London's knife violence hits younger teens more than ever before

In 2017 knife violence increased by a whopping 20% so even they have been bitten by the violence bug.

When using a blunt instrument or a knife it becomes up close and personal.

But lets not just look at murder lets look at all violent crime in America. From rape to home invasion. In 2018, the estimated number of violent crime offenses was 1,206,836, a decrease of 3.3 percent from the 2017 estimate.

So in closing Does America have a gun violence problem or does it go far deeper than that and a violence problem period.

I am going with a violence problem period.
dfd the U.K., knife and gun crime both inc
